Kleinschmidt Memorial Foundation Program

Sixteen Goondiwindi State High School Year 11 students are the recipients of the inaugural Kleinschmidt Memorial Foundation Program to attend Griffith University for a trial week in January 2017.
Through the generosity of Mr Kleinschmidt and the Kleinschmidt Foundation Trust Fund, these students will spend a week at the Gold Coast campus of Griffith University experiencing campus life.  They will participate in interactive activities, academic information sessions, demonstrations, workshops, as well as personal and professional development.
The program has been designed by Griffith University purely for the Kleinschmidt Memorial Foundation Program and encompassing the areas of study the successful students nominated interest in including criminology, engineering and health. 
The program aims to give meaningful experiences that will give GSHS students a comprehensive insight into university life at Griffith.
This new initiative was open for application to all current GSHS Year 11 students.
Mr Kleinschmidt was a much admired local vet who had a vested interest in bettering our community.  When he passed away he left the Kleinschmidt Foundation Trust Fund to benefit the people of our local community. 
Speaking about the inception of the program, Principal Mr Brett Hallett said “Graeme Scheu and I have been having conversations for an extended period of time about what the Kleinschmidt Trust could do to support Goondiwindi children in the High School to further and broaden their educational aspirations.”
“After meeting with Graeme and Geoff Makim (executors of the Trust), and conversing with Mr Kleinschmidt’s nephew Bill Heck who is a board member of Griffith University it didn’t take long to tailor an opportunity for this inaugural program with the support of our Guidance Officer, Mrs Toni Clarence, and the staff from Griffith University.  To have an individualised program not only specifically for Goondiwindi State High School, but also based on the chosen potential career directions of the students, it’s just unheard of.”
